Description: Across the country, from Phoenix to Memphis and here in the Midwest, massive crypto mining and AI data centers moved into communities with big promises and even bigger problems. What came with promises of jobs and community investment were higher energy bills, empty and destroyed water systems, nonstop noise, pollution, poor health, and communities left holding the bill. At the same time, billionaires and companies walked away with tax breaks and billions in profits. Now Northern Michigan is on their radar. These facilities use enormous amounts of energy and water, drive up rates for everyday people, and are often approved without real community input. Once the facilities are built, the damage is done. If you think your rates are high now, imagine what this could mean for the U.P. and Northern Michigan. That's why neighbors across the First Congressional District are coming together before it's too late. It's a hybrid, plain-language conversation for First District residents. We have in-person events in Sault Ste. Marie, Hancock, and Marquette, and one Zoom link for the entire district. You'll learn: * How data centers impact water, health, and energy costs. * What s already happening in Michigan. * What we can do now to protect our communities. * Northern Michigan is not a sacrificial zone. Correcting events.
If an event listing needs correction, first try to contact the "source" organization
listed under the event. (Or you may be able to submit a 'new' event to them, and
note that this is a correction for a previous entry.)
If that fails, use the "Feedback" link below, and send us the "UniqueId" listed at
the bottom of the event, the county name, and the corrected info (date, time, etc.)
